Poster Peek: ‘Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief’

– by JON MARTINCIC –

Percy Jackson is the descendant of a Greek god, as well as a character created by Rick Riordan.

Riordan has been hard at work over the years writing novels about Percy’s adventures within Greek mythology, as well as balancing his school life.

The first installment of a hoped-for movie franchise, “Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lighnting Thief,” is scheduled to be released on the silver screen on Feb. 12, 2010.

The cast has a few recognizable faces in Rosario Dawson, Uma Thurman, Pierce Brosnan and Sean Bean as “Zeus.” Logan Lerman (of “The Patriot” and “3:10 to Yuma”) has snatched the role of Percy. The kid definitely has the chops to carry what could turn into a long series. His work in “The Butterfly Effect” as the young Ashton Kutcher is what first got my attention.

The potential for this movie, to be optimistic, could become the movie world’s next “Harry Potter.” There are five books available, giving the potential for many sequels to come. With the “Potter” series winding down, this seems like an opportune time for a cinematic debut.
