Europa Report: Teaser and Trailer

europa_report_2– by ELI COLON –

Magnolia Pictures has released the first teaser and full-length trailers for Sebastian Cordero’s sci-fi film “Europa Report.”

Starring Sharlto Copley (“District 9,” “Elysium”) and Michael Nyqvist (“The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,” “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol”), the film follows a contemporary mission to Jupiter’s moon Europa to investigate the possible existence of alien life. When the crew lands on the surface and starts digging below the ice, they find themselves in dire circumstances.

The film is using the found footage approach where the cameras are inside the spacecraft, on the external vehicles, and in documentary-style interviews with the crew members. Continue reading

Tom Cruise departs The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

tom-340x440– by ELI COLON –

Director Guy Ritchie’s adaptation of the popular TV series “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” has lost its leading man as Deadline is reporting that Tom Cruise has vacated the starring role of Napoleon Solo with the film’s fall production start-date looming.

This news isn’t surprising to me, especially after Cruise recently announced he’s returning to star and produce the fifth installment of the “Mission: Impossible” series. He’s bailing out of “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” project to focus on “M:I 5” as Deadline reveals Paramount and Cruise want to begin filming on “M:I 5” by the end of this year, especially after they hired “Iron Man 3” screenwriter Drew Pearce to handle the script, but the film still doesn’t have a director attached. The Wolverine: New Trailer

The_Wolverine_24– by ELI COLON –

20th Century Fox has released a new trailer for James Mangold’s sequel “The Wolverine.”

After being haunted by losses, we find Hugh Jackman’s titular character isolated in modern day Japan where he has a desire to part ways with his own immortality while facing his ultimate nemesis in “a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed.”

Remember when Famke Janssen reprising her “X-Men” character Jean Grey was considered a spoiler? Continue reading

Man of Steel: Character Posters

hr_Man_of_Steel_19– by ELI COLON –

The marketing department over at Warner Bros. loves to release character posters for their films (for example: “The Great Gatsby”) and it was only a matter of time before they started to do them for Zack Snyder’s upcoming Superman flick, “Man of Steel.”

So they kicked off the film’s character posters with Russell Crowe as Superman’s biological father, Jor-El in full Kryptonian attire. I don’t know about you, but I’m curious to find out why a scientist like Jor-El will be brandishing a giant gun.

I’m also interested in seeing how Snyder and company will be handling the scenes in Krypton, because you sense from the trailers that the Kryptonian culture will have a major impact on the film’s storyline. Continue reading

As international critics and moviegoers are getting the chance to director Nicolas Winding Refn’s follow-up to his fantastic 2011 film “Drive,” new red-band clips from “Only God Forgives” have made their way online.

Ryan Gosling stars as Julian, who has been in exile in Bangkok for 10 years due to him killing a cop. While in Bangkok, Julian manages a Thai boxing club, but it’s a front for a family drugs operation. However, Julian will soon find himself in trouble when his brother Billy (played by Tom Burke) gets killed after he murdered a prostitute. Continue reading

Sean Penn in talks for Inherent Vice

Sean_Penn_2013– by ELI COLON –

Since “Magnolia,” Paul Thomas Anderson has mostly stayed away from having starry ensembles. It’s not that A-listers haven’t starred in his films as each of his last three films (“Punch Drunk Love,” “There Will Be Blood” and “The Master”) have been anchored by one or two leading performances from big stars, but the films’ supporting roles have mostly been cast with unfamiliar faces.

However, that will surely change for PTA’s upcoming adaptation of Thomas Pynchon’s novel, “Inherent Vice,” now that Warner Bros. is backing the film, which will mark PTA’s first true-blue studio picture. Continue reading

Review: The Hangover Part III

movies_hangover_part_3_bts_1– by ADAM DALE –

When “The Hangover” opened in 2009, nobody saw it coming. It was one of the biggest surprise comedy hits in years and become one of the highest-grossing comedies of all time. It was so off the wall and raunchy that it was a breath of fresh air in a genre that seemed stuck to formulaic and by-the-book humor and gags. The 2011 sequel went about the same route, this time transferring the action to Thailand, but they seemed to do the same things as the original and this time it felt stale. The shock factor was gone and with it went the majority of the laughs.

Well, director Todd Phillips is back to give us the conclusion to his trilogy with “The Hangover Part III,” which is using a whole new formula to tell the story. Continue reading

Don Jon: Trailer No. 1

don_jon_130308_360– by ELI COLON –

Relativity Media has released the first trailer for Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s directorial debut “Don Jon.” In addition to directing, JGL also wrote and stars in the comedy as a Don Juan-type named Jon Martello who is quite dedicated to his family, friends and religion — as well as women and pornography. Set to find a more gratifying sex life, Martello embarks on a journey where he ends up learning larger lessons of life and love through relationships with two very different women.

As I mentioned previously, “Don Jon” premiered at Sundance earlier this year to glowing reviews where critics praised the film for being funny and upbeat. JGL received high marks for what looks to be a good start to a very promising directorial career. Continue reading

The Wolverine: Character Posters

– by ELI COLON –

I think most of you will agree with me that “The Wolverine” is the least anticipated superhero movie of the summer — mainly due to it being the follow-up film to the horrific “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.” However, I’m also sensing that “X-Men” fans have their attention on “X-Men: Days of Future Past” instead of “The Wolverine,” especially lately with filming currently underway on “Days of Future Past” as we speak.

While “The Wolverine” does have an upheaval battle this summer, I do have to say that I liked all of the trailers they have released thus far and we have to hope that this new “Wolverine” film will be a return to form for the “X-Men” franchise. Continue reading

We’re the Millers: First Trailers

jennifer-aniston-stripping-07– by ELI COLON –

“We’re the Millers” – by “Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story” director Rawson Marshall Thurber – centers on a single, small-time pot dealer (Jason Sudeikis) who ends up in debt to his supplier (Ed Helms). In order to bring the next shipment of drugs up from Mexico, he must concoct a fake family out of his stripper neighbor (Jennifer Aniston), an eager teen (Will Poulter) and a streetwise punk (Emma Roberts).

The red-band trailer features Aniston stripping, Sudeikis doing a terrible impersonation of Bane, Helms’ choice in aquatic pets, Nick Offerman and Kathryn Hahn playing kinky travelers, Poulter receiving a spider bite in a place where no man wants to experience it and, oh yeah, Aniston stripping again. Two Clips from This Is the End

Two new clips from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s directorial debut “This Is the End” have made their way online.

From a script by Rogen and Goldberg, “This Is the End” tells the story of Rogen, James Franco, Jonah Hill, Jay Baruchel, Danny McBride and Craig Robinson (all playing themselves) being survivors of a massive, star-studded party that occurs at Franco’s house during the start of the apocalypse.

Pacific Rim: Drift Space Featurette

pacific-rim-robots-poster– by ELI COLON –

One of the films I’m most eagerly waiting to see this summer is Guillermo’s del Toro’s giant robot movie “Pacific Rim.” I’m trying not to set too high of expectations for this film, but it’s difficult not to, especially based on the visual footage we saw in its trailers that look leaps and bounds beyond what we usually get from CGI-heavy films.

The lightning, color and detail are staggering and gorgeous, but I’m obviously curious to see how it blends into its story. While we wait to see how it turns out in a few months, IGN has now released a new featurette of the film that once again displays more of its eye-candy visuals. Continue reading

The Lone Ranger: Action Trailer

the_lone_ranger_Live_QA– by ELI COLON –

With a little over a month until its theatrical release, Disney has released a new trailer for Gore Verbinski’s “The Lone Ranger.”

The story centers on John Reid (Armie Hammer) who survives an attack thanks to Native American warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp). Then, Tonto convinces Reid to don a mask in order to become a vigilante as the two team up to fight injustice. This new trailer zooms right through the premise and instead focuses on its action-packed sequences.

While I’m intrigued by this film, I just can’t help but think that I’m about to watch the sequel to “Wild Wild West.” Continue reading
