A Look at the ‘Captain America’ Super Bowl Ad

— by ANDY BEHBAKHT —

Just a couple of days ago, the poster arrived for “Captain America: First Avenger” and now a few days later, we get to see Captain America in action.

During last night’s Super Bowl, the first ad aired. Here’s the synopsis for the movie:
The year is 1942, and Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) is a scrawny lad who desperately wants to fight Nazis for his country but can’t because he’s been deemed physically unfit. His fate — and his physique — is radically transformed when he signs up for Project: Rebirth, a secret military operation that turns wimps into studs using drugs and assorted sci-fi hoo-ha. There’s a love interest (Major Peggy Carter, played Haley Atwell), there’s a sidekick (Bucky Barnes, played by Sebastian Stans), and there’s the Red Skull (Hugo Weaving), Hitler’s treacherous head of advanced weaponry, whose own plan for world domination involves a magical object known as The Tesseract (comic fans know it better as The Cosmic Cube).

And now for the ad:

I don’t know where to start, so I will go with the skinny Evans. I didn’t feel the head fit with the skinny body, but it doesn’t bother me too much and I don’t think I will notice it when I see the movie. The machine that transforms the skinny soldier into a bulked-up super soldier was a surprise to me.

Then, we have the man himself wearing the suit — in action. I must say again that the suits look amazing and now that I have seen it in action, I’m getting more and more excited for this movie. For some reason, the helmet is bothering me, maybe because it’s not a mask and is a helmet instead. I guess it’s hard to make something exactly from a comic, but other than that; the suit rocks.

Also, there is the one-second sneak peek at the fight between Cap and Red Skull. Almost a month ago, I had this concept art in an article that was supposedly leaked and now we have it confirmed. I must say that the design crew has done a successful job of making Red Skull’s appearance as amazing as possible. Like I said before, Weaving looked freaking scary before he turned red and I think he is going to do a great job of bringing the audience a terrifying and incredible portrayal of Red Skull.

What else can I say, I think this film is going to be a total success and I’m pretty sure that there will be more Captain America movies (in addition to the upcoming “Avengers” movie).

Directed by Joe Johnston, “Captain America: The First Avenger” premieres July 22, 2011. It stars Chris Evans (Steve Rogers/Captain America), Hugo Weaving (Johann Schmidt/Red Skull), Neal McDonough (Dum Dum Dugan), Hayley Atwell (Peggy Carter), Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes), Tommy Lee Jones (Colonel Phillips), Stanley Tucci (Abraham Erskine), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) and Dominic Cooper (Howard Stark).

In the meantime, discuss and leave your comments at the right. What do you guys think of this ad?

Finally! As one of the few who didn’t watch the Super Bowl, the ad was great. I got to disagree about the “helmet”. I think it looks great and people will not bother to see the difference. Also, seeing a super-skinny Steve Rogers transforming to the super-buff superhero he is with the super serum was a cool surprise. Sure he looks dorky, but I like it. Can’t wait for the movie to hit the cinemas!
