Online Film Critics Society: 2013 Nominees

The Online Film Critics Society has announced its nominees for the 17th annual OFCS awards for excellence in film.

The year was marked by conspicuous trends, ranging from end-of-the-world cataclysms, A-list Hollywood stars struggling against unforgiving environments to African American filmmakers portraying the black experience with emotional candor. Art house riches abounded, with films such as “The Artist and the Model,” “Big Star: Nothing Can Hurt Me,” and “Frances Ha” stealing the hearts of audiences willing to look beyond the multiplex.

Founded in 1997, the Online Film Critics Society is the largest and oldest organization of its kind, and a key catalyst in the expansion of Internet-based film journalism. More than 265 members voted.

The 2013 Online Film Critics Society Awards will be announced Dec. 16.
