There are many phobias out there that people suffer from, many of which ironically have funny names. Triskaidekaphobia is the fear of the number thirteen, arachibutyrophobia is the fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of your mouth, and people such as myself suffer from pteromerhanophobia, which is quite common as it is the fear of flying. Because of this fear, the trailer for “Airborne” has me both wildly anxious with sweaty palms, as well as completely torn in my desire to see the film.
Planes are innately nerve-wracking for many, many reasons. There is a height factor, a claustrophobic factor, weather plays an important role, but most importantly, control and lack there of. There isn’t much you can do when you’re bouncing about thirty thousand feet in the air. Think about it, that’s what made the infamous “The Twilight Zone” episode Nightmare at 20000 feet so fantastic.
“Airborne” stars Mark Hamill, which is interesting and definitely a strong marketing aspect. I am guessing a lot of people will see this film if for no other reason than because Luke Skywalker is in it. The film is from the UK which adds some appeal for me, as I love seeing how other cultures bring this type of film to the forefront. Plot wise, I am not entirely hooked. A plane is in the air whilst a storm is brewing and all flights out of its outbound airport are cancelled. Tensions rise as not only does a passenger go missing, but the plane is also veered off course and an ancient Chinese vase of sorts which is carrying god knows what is revealed to be on board. I don’t know which is worse: ancient Chinese artifacts or snakes. “Snakes on a Plane” was not, for me, a highlight in cinematic history, but I’ll still take a chance and see what this vase is all about. I will however, be very upset if there are Chinese snakes in the vase on the plane.
“Airborne” is set for a UK DVD release on July 23. This is one of those films that I am hoping to see on Netflix as an instant watch option. I will always give these types of movies a go, they are just fun and games, and in my case, it might rattle my nerves just enough to be worth it.

Snakes would make it better
This is Hamill’s first ever starring role in a British film and he’s chosen a wickedly enjoyable high-altitude thriller in the fine tradition of such films as “Executive Decision”, “Passenger 57”, “Red Eye” mixed in with a good dose of “Snakes on a Plane”.
