Generally, I’m not the world’s biggest fan of fan-made trailers. While I can appreciate the effort and enthusiasm that went in to them, I usually find myself spending the majority of their short run-time muttering half-witted statements like “Was that a clip from ‘Down with Love’?” or “Hey, that’s taken from ‘Jewel of the Nile.’”
Which, of course, isn’t to say that there aren’t still some damn good ones floating out there in the void of cyberspace. The home-made trailers for “Thundercats,” “The Legend of Zelda” and “The Nightmare on Elm Street” remake (which looks superior to the actual Platinum Dunes effort), are legendarily awesome, as is the romantic-comedy variation on “The Shining.”
Now, from the dedicated creative soul behind the much-loved Nathan Fillion “Green Lantern” clip, comes the teaser for a live-action adaptation of the Serbian anime “Technotise,” which seems to be predominantly made up of snippets from “Minority Report,” “Resident Evil,” “I, Robot” and “The Island.”
As I know literally zilch about “Technotise,” I watched the flashy official NSFW trailer for the new animated film version and wandered over to the property’s Wikipedia page, which, while incredibly vague, gives at least a hint as to what it’s all about:
Based on the comic-book by Aleksa Gajic and Darko Grkinic, the story focuses on a legendary tunnel connecting Zemun and Kalmegdan, made during Austrian-Turkish war. It is set in future Belgrade 2074, and the main character is Edit, an art student.
Okay… I guess that’s something.
Regardless, my lack of experience with “Technotise” makes me a terrible judge of the trailer’s quality, faithfulness and/or artistic merits, so I’m just going to leave it to you guys to chime in on the comments section with your feedback. And while you’re at it, feel free to mention some of your favorite fan-trailers. Inquiring minds want to know!
