A Scene from ‘Toy Story 3’

— by JOSUE SANCHEZ —

I often wonder about where my childhood toys could be today? I remember I used to take such good care of them, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they are out there, somewhere. Actually, I would not mind having some of them back, like my “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe” collection (the original). My heart hurts thinking about them, out there, buried in some three-stories-high garbage dump, still intact. Yet, for the sake of making this a fun article, I won’t get started on that. What I really want to talk about is the new clip, embedded below, for “Toy Story 3.”

When I first saw “Toy Story,” I was extremely impressed for various reasons. The computer generated (CG) graphics were state of the art of that time, and they spared no expense on all the details; which to me, is what was missing in the previous CG art films before it. Yet, here, we had so much to look at in all directions. Rich, clean and rendered with purity, it was a masterpiece to me, and it changed 3D animation forever.

The cast (including Tom Hanks and Tim Allen) was also something of a dream come true. They somehow managed to bring together a group of great actors and comedians with wonderful, recognizable voices to further enhance the glorious story they were trying to tell. It was a match made in heaven, and together, it brought comedy, adventure, and a lot of fun. This is why I was terribly worried when I heard about a “Toy Story 2” being made. Could it even come close to the first? Would the originality be lost?

“Toy Story 2” was a success, and it had all the facets that I loved about the first — with a few extra touches. To begin with, there was more detailed art, new characters were introduced, and they even gave us a back-story to Woody! How about the surprise of who Buzz’s dad really was?

This brings us to “Toy Story 3.” Once again, there are more than enough reasons to worry. At the same time, I feel that they have earned my trust. So, I will attempt to relax, and hope that they can, at least, equal their previous wonders.

In the clip below, we see the stage being set for the characters we know and love to have yet another wonderful adventure. I wonder what new characters they will introduce? Let the new journey begin.

“Toy Story 3” will be released on June 18, 2010.

Not only He-Man, but I also miss my G.I. Joe’s that went to trash as well. Oh, childhood memories.
