If you loved “A Walk to Remember” or “The Notebook,” then the latest Nicholas Sparks book-turned-movie will be right up your alley.
“Dear John” tells the story of John Tyree (Channing Tatum), a soldier on leave who gets more than he bargained for when he meets Savannah Curtis (Amanda Seyfried). After he dives into the ocean to retrieve her purse, John and Savannah begin spending time together and quickly fall in love.
But after only a few weeks together, John has to begin his tour of duty. John and Savannah write letters and promise to stay in touch during the year he is gone, but as Savannah points out, a lot can happen in 12 months.
Audiences who love Sparks’ North Carolina-set romantic dramas will likely enjoy the story of John and Savannah. But like the previous films based on Sparks’ work, this one will probably also involve a tragic twist.
Have your tissues ready when “Dear John” opens Feb. 5.
