Pretty much anything featuring the words “From writer/director J.J. Abrams” is going to pique my interest. Add “From producer Steven Spielberg” to the mix and I’m definitely intrigued.
In typical Abrams fashion, not many details about the plot of “Super 8” have been revealed. The film centers on a group of kids in Ohio who are filming a Super 8 movie in the summer of 1979 when they catch a major train crash on camera. After the crash, a series of strange events start happening — disappearing dogs, missing people, inexplicable destruction. It’s up to the group of kids and a local deputy to figure out what’s really going on, which might be something out of this world.
“Super 8” is the kind of movie I don’t want to know much about going into it. Knowing Abrams it will be full of twists and turns, and knowing as little as possible beforehand should make the film all the more thrilling to watch. The combination of Abrams’ inventive sci-fi storytelling with the nostalgia of Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment films of the 1980s makes this a must-see for me.
“Super 8” hits theaters June 10.
