Although he won renown later in his career as a terrific comedic actor, Leslie Nielsen did plenty of serious work. But he took his comedy seriously as well and his greatest asset as a comedian was that he never seemed to be in on the joke. Playing his comedic roles in “The Naked Gun” and “Airplane” movies as deadly serious made his one-liners all the more humorous.
Leslie Nielsen died today at 84, but his legacy will live on as new generations discover a genius of the deadpan brand of comedy.
