“Super 8” has been highly secretive with its plot ever since a teaser trailer was released in May 2010. I remember where I was when I first saw it. I was in line to see “Iron Man 2” at its midnight opening in IMAX. I was excited then and have been highly anticipating this movie without really knowing a lot about the film ever since. How fitting that now, over a year later, “Super 8” will finally be hitting IMAX screens across the country and the world this Friday (June 10).
In 1979, a group of teenagers in Lillian, Ohio, are making a student film with an 8mm film camera. During a late night shoot at a train station, they witness a massive train crash that wasn’t an accident. As they are escaping, they hear and see something trying to break out of the wreckage. They vow never to tell anyone or speak of it again. When a series of strange and unexplained incidents occur — such as disappearances and vandalism around the town — the army shows up and assures the sheriff that nothing is out of the ordinary; the kids, however, know that isn’t true. As they all search to find the truth, it appears everything isn’t as it seems and the truth could be more disturbing than any of them could have ever imagined.
We have recently seen some trailers and clips released that independently didn’t give that much away about the film by themselves, but now we have an extended look at a trailer and montage of footage that debuted at last night’s MTV Movie Awards. You can watch it right here.

Although most of what you see in this extended trailer already has been released, we have longer scenes and clips that either haven’t been shown before or were shorter previously. Now since the train crash and creature/alien escaping is the catalyst for the entire movie, it is only fitting this is the beginning of the clip. After, that we see some people being attacked by an unseen force, and then we get a quick look at some event happening in the town that looks like a strong magnetic force is drawing objects into a central point in the town.
Another new aspect to this trailer is the amount of involvement the army has and a voice-over that talks about knowing the army is hiding something big, we have seen the influence of this previously, but it is showcased much more prevalently here. The kids discovering something in what looks to be a barn, and some massive action and explosions finish off the extended look.
With “Super 8” being directed by J.J. Abrams and produced by Steven Spielberg, it is no wonder that it feels like it is going to be a cross between “E.T.,” “Cloverfield,” and “Close Encounters of the Third Kind.” I am looking forward to discovering the secrets this movie possesses and I already have my ticket for the midnight opening in IMAX! So, are you planning on heading out to see it this weekend?
“Super 8” — which stars Joel Courtney, Elle Fanning, Kyle Chandler, Noah Emmerich, Amanda Michalka, Ron Eldard and Jessica Tuck — is rated PG-13 for intense sequences of sci-fi action, violence, mild language and brief nudity. It opens in IMAX and traditional theaters everywhere June 10.

This is THE big movie for me this summer! I kind of wish they had given the very least amount of info on it possible but I understand they gotta get the average movie-goer in the seat. I’m already super stoked though!!!
