Shortlist for the Visual Effects Oscar Released


The 10 films on the short list to compete for the five visual effects Oscar nominations have been released by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Members of the visual-effects branch will pare the list down to the five official Oscar nominees after watching a 10-minute clip from each film later this month. The Oscar nominees will be announced Jan. 24.

In alphabetical order, the shortlist is as follows:

“Captain America: The First Avenger”
“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2”
“Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol”
“Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides”
“Real Steel”
“Rise of the Planet of the Apes”
“Transformers: Dark of the Moon”
“The Tree of Life”
“X-Men: First Class”
