When it comes to huge ensemble casts, movies tend to be hit or miss at the box office. Sometimes, so many stars can raise your expectations making it harder to please everybody. Well, Warner Bros. has a new dramatic comedy for you called “Crazy, Stupid, Love.” It stars Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Marisa Tomei, Julianne Moore and Kevin Bacon.
After watching the trailer numerous times, I am pretty sure that I would go to see this movie, Steve Carell is one of the funniest guys around now, and even though he has had a few comedic misfires, I believe it was more the script’s than his. He is funniest when he has room to improvise, so let’s hope there is lots of it in this movie.
The story seems pretty typical: guy loses girl, then plays the field, while still in love with girl, and then she realizes what she is missing. This time it’s a bit different because he has a professional ladies man in Ryan Gosling. I haven’t seen Gosling in anything for awhile, but he will attract teen girls and young women to see this movie simply from being in “The Notebook.”
In addition, Julianne Moore and Emma Stone are both wonderful actors with great comedic timing. I’m not really sure about Kevin Bacon’s involvement in the movie other than dating Steve Carell’s wife, but it’s good to see him, too.
I would say that this might be a fun date movie, or just a good film for fans of comedy. I do think this would have been better suited to come out earlier in the year and not going into a mega blockbuster-filled summer.
Do you think you will see “Crazy, Stupid, Love.” when it hits theaters July 29?
