Zachary Levi in Talks for Thor 2

— by SHERICE ANTOINETTE —

The Warriors Three have been a part of the Asgardian mythos since the ‘60s and thanks to Kenneth Branagh’s pitch-perfect direction, the fighting trio was well utilized in last year’s “Thor,” which starred Chris Helmsworth as the hammer-wielding avenger.

However, one of the three warriors may be replaced by “Chuck” star Zachary Levi due to scheduling conflicts. Joshua Dallas, who portrayed Hogan in the first film, will be in the midst of shooting ABC’s “Once Upon A Time” when the Thor sequel is in production. Interestingly enough, Levi was in talks for the part back in 2010, but dropped out of consideration when “Chuck” was renewed.

Filming is set to start in July with Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Idris Elba and Tom Hiddleston returning. In negotiations to play the villain is Mads Mikkelson (“Casino Royal,” “Clash of the Titans”). It’s not clear whether or not Anthony Hopkins will reprise the role of Odin, or Rene Russo as Thor’s mother, Frigga. Since we’re nearly midway through June, I expect final casting choices will be announced soon.

As for the speculated inclusion of the Enchantress, Hemsworth told MTV’s Splash Page that Charlize Theron would be a good choice for the role, but concedes she’s booked solid. In fact, “Mad Max: Fury Road,” her next project, begins production this summer.

“Thor 2” is due to hit theaters Nov. 8, 2013.
