Trailer Talk: The Muppets

— by ADAM POYNTER —

The last theatrically-released Muppet movie was more than 10 years ago, but now your favorite frog is back and the whole team is coming along for the ride in “The Muppets.”

“The Muppets” tells the story of Walter, the world’s largest Muppet fan. Walter is on vacation in Los Angeles with his friends Gary (Jason Segel) and Mary (Amy Adams) when they discover a dubious plan by Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to tear down the Muppet Theater to drill for oil that was recently discovered to be dwelling beneath it.

The trio join with Kermit to raise the money needed to save the theater by putting on the Greatest Muppet Telethon ever — but in order to do so he must track down and get the disbanded Muppet gang back together again. With secrets, celebrity cameos, singing and dancing, this might be their largest adventure yet.

We have seen multiple teaser trailer spoofs, but now we have an official trailer and you can watch it below:

I love how the trailer starts off with a mysterious voice, then we get a glimpse of our main humans and then there are The Muppets. You get some of the classic laughs expected from these small but mighty characters, but they also play up the drama and action. Overall, I think this is a decent trailer — definitely intriguing to their target demographic, small children and families.

It will be interesting to see how well this film is received since these characters probably aren’t as familiar with this current generation. I am in my late 20s and I remember watching Muppet movies, but then again I have an older sibling who were probably fans first and that’s how I knew about them as a child.

What are your thoughts on this trailer, or just the concept in general for our current generation? Do you think they could make a comeback through this film just as a feature length movie did for “Alvin and the Chipmunks?” Do you have a favorite Muppet? Leave it in the comments section.

“The Muppets” makes its way into theaters Nov. 23.
