Marvel Studios to Skip This Year’s Comic-Con

— by ANDY BEHBAKHT —

Last summer, Marvel had the biggest event at Comic-Con with “The Avengers” cast appearing to promote the biggest movie the studio has ever done. But this year, Marvel won’t follow their brilliant move from last year. Hero Complex reports Marvel Studios won’t make an appearance with the Avengers as this year’s Comic-Con — which is a huge surprise, since this event is basically the best time of the year to promote and get fans hyped up. Look at all the success they achieved promoting “Thor” “X-Men: First Class” and next month’s “Captain America: The First Avenger,” so why the sudden change?

Unfortunately, Marvel’s rival DC Comics/Warner Bros. seems to be following the same footsteps this year as well – movies such as “Man of Steel” (which is about to enter production in a month or two) and “The Dark Knight Rises” (which is shooting as we speak) also won’t be making an appearance this year. There could be several reasons why they have decided to sit out the Con and hopefully we will get answers soon enough.

Fortunately for fans, however, there still will be “The Amazing Spider-Man” panel with the cast and the first teasers for the movie, which will be out next year as well. And with “Captain America: The First Avenger” being released while Comic-Con is taking place, word is that Chris Evans and Hugo Weaving are apparently making appearance there –so there is still things for fans to look forward to. Plus, who knows, maybe the absent movies mentioned above will release some teasers and other interesting things during the coming weeks as compensation.

Comic-Con 2011 will take place from July 21 to 24. “Captain America: The First Avengers” arrives in theaters July 22. Other upcoming releases include: “The Avengers” (May 4, 2012); “The Amazing Spider-Man” (July 3, 2012); “The Dark Knight Rises” (July 20, 2012); and “Man of Steel (December 2012)
