‘Cars 2: World Grand Prix’ Gearing Up

Walt Disney Picture’s digital 3-D animation movie “Cars 2: World Grand Prix” continues the story of racing star Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) and his best friend Mater (Larry the Cable Guy) in a new adventure.

This time they are zooming into the international racing stage of the World Grand Prix.

As reported by Empire Online, the movie’s producer, John Lasseter, shared plot details for the sequel during yesterday morning’s Disney presentation in London’s Leicester Square.

According to Lasseter, the story’s plot is not only going to include the Grand Prix race, with many international settings, but also a plot where McQueen’s tow truck buddy, Mater, becomes involved in a comedy spy thriller with a “Hitchcockian” case of mistaken identity. The not-so-bright Mater will end up saving the life of a British secret agent named Finn McMissile.

Returning to voice their respective parts from “Cars” are Bonnie Hunt, Cheech Marin and Tony Shalhoub. No word on who is being considered for the part of Finn McMissile, but with the recent news that former 007 Timothy Dalton will be joining the cast of toys in “Toy Story 3” as Mr. Pricklepants, perhaps they will cast a former 007 in “Cars 2” as secret agent McMissile.

The movie will be directed by Brad Lewis, who produced “Ratatouille,” the 2008 Oscar winner for Best Animated Feature Film. He will be making his Pixar directing debut.

Look for “Cars 2” to race into theaters during the summer of 2012.

The first “Cars” movie is actually one of the few Pixar movies I have missed (maybe even the only one). For some reason, it just never appealed to me.

I’d much rather have Incredibles 2.

This looks like it could be better than the original. Would be good if they do get Bond actor.
