A Clip from ‘Day & Night’

— by JOSUE SANCHEZ —

It has become a tradition for Pixar movies to include a short movies before the feature presentation. Many of these have gone on to win awards and have become famous. In fact, you can even buy the bulk of the Disney/Pixar shorts on DVD. I have this one and I can tell you this: it is priceless. It has various shorts that I consider to be real treats. one example is “Geri’s Game” — I cannot get enough of this short. I have watched it over and over. It is the one were the old man that plays chess with himself. I love it.

Now, with the release of “Toy Story 3” there will be another little treasure attached to it called “Day & Night” — and it appears it will be different to the rest. By the looks of it, it will be Pixar’s first attempt at 2-D! Yes, actual hand-drawn animation! I personally think this will be a great contrast to the movie that will follow it, “Toy Story 3,” which is in 3-D and is 3-D animation.

The film is directed by Teddy Newton, one of the geniuses behind the art of “The Iron Giant” and “The Incredibles!” So check out the clip we have embedded below entitled “Sunbather.” It will give you an idea of the unique style of the movie. To me, it has a “Pink Panther” classic cartoons feel to it. Remember the guy who was always at war with the Pink Panther, the one who wore a white cap and had a mustache? Yeah, him. Classic right? It’s that cool!

Look for “Day & Night” to premiere in front of “Toy Story 3” starting June 18.
