It's Just Movies

Before I discuss the new “Thor” clips, I am going to first take a moment and be a fangirl for a bit.

How awesomely hot does Chris Hemsworth look? He’s the perfect pick for Thor in my humble opinion.

OK, I feel better. Now back to our regularly-scheduled clip discussion.

This first clip definitely knows what it’s doing and which audience it’s trying to reach. It was first viewed on MTV, and I must say it was the perfect way to introduce the movie to those outside the genre-loving world.

The clip is fun, flirty, engaging … everything you want when trying to sell a movie with a distinct appeal to a broader audience. What are we presented with? Clearly it’s about the first time Thor meets Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), Darcy (Kat Dennings) and Professor Andrews (Stellan Skarsgard). And in the grand tradition of kitschy meets, it definitely falls on the scale as memorable and enjoyable.

In this second clip from IGN, Thor gets down and dirty and delivers a crushing kick. There’s also a cameo that I don’t want to spoil. Enjoy.

Will these clips do the trick and bring not only the loyal comic audience to theaters, but also the average Joe who wouldn’t know a light saber from a phaser? What do you think?

“Thor” will be hammering away at a theater near you come May 6.
