Casting for “Captain America: The First Avenger” seemed like it stretched on forever before director Joe Johnson finally selected Chris Evans. Now, we finally have our first glimpse of Evans in character thanks to eight new photos from Entertainment Weekly (check them out here).
The photos give fans a look at Evans in his military uniform (and shirtless, of course), Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, Stanley Tucci as Dr. Abraham Erskine, a menacing-looking Hugo Weaving as Red Skull and Evans with the famous Captain America shield.
They might just be a quick tease, but I think the photos are a pretty exciting first look at how Steve Rogers’ evolution into Captain America will be captured onscreen. Evans certainly looks the part of the all-American hero, and I have no doubts that Weaving will make a truly conniving villain. I’m especially intrigued about seeing a Marvel film that’s also a period piece. I think these photos capture the World War II atmosphere with a comic book twist beautifully.
But what do you think of the photos? Do they make you even more excited for the film? Is Evans your ideal Captain America? Sound off in the comments section.
“Captain America: The First Avenger” heads to the big screen July 22, 2011.

I for one have been anxious to see how they would portray Steve Rogers onscreen & I am impressed how much Evans bulked up for the role. The movie should be interesti.g as its Marvel’s first suoerhero period movie!
Looking forward to it. Hope this and Thor are both great so we know we can expect an awesome avengers flick.
totally, evans looks great as cap. Can’t wait to see more photos and trailers in the coming months. Also haley, and hugo look great too.
