I’m generally not a fan of the movie clips that studios release before their movie opens. When watched without any context and with only knowing the basic plot of the upcoming release, the clips usually make little sense and don’t pack the emotional punch they’re going for (be it comedy or drama). But this clip from “Date Night” actually broke away from this convention by being…wait for it…actually funny!
Steve Carell and Tina Fey are Phil and Claire Foster, a married couple on the run from some shady characters after being mistaken for another couple. Claire is apparently a real estate agent of some kind and suggests they drop in on one of her former clients to ask for help. Phil marvels at her ability to remember someone specific when she caters to such a vast clientele, then a shirtless — and impressively buff — Mark Wahlberg answers the door, and Phil understands why this one client in particular stuck with Claire. The incredulous looks Carrel shoots at Fey during her smitten flirtatious reunion speak a thousand words, all of them hilarious.
