Berlinale selects initial 7 competition films

Belinale 2014 PosterStarting in mid-January, the Berlinale poster will be displayed at the Potsdamer Platz and across the city, and so set the mood for the 64th Berlin International Film Festival, which will take place from Feb. 6 to 16, 2014.

“The Berlinale Bear is and remains an extremely popular mascot — not only with our movie-loving Berlin audiences but also our international guests,” said Festival Director Dieter Kosslick. “This year, an entire parade of bears will colorfully brighten Berlin’s cityscape and light the way to the cinema.”

The first seven films for the film festival’s competition program have been selected. Joining opening film “Grand Budapest Hotel” and “Monuments Men,” both announced in November, productions and co-productions from Canada, Cyprus, France, Germany, Greece, Spain, United Kingdom and the US are the newest additions to the Competition program.

As part of the official program, Berlinale Special will feature current works by contemporary filmmakers, documentaries and unique formats. Four productions have already been invited. More information regarding program selections will be announced in the coming weeks.
