Four Clips from ‘She’s Out of My League’

— by SEAN GERSKI —

“She’s Out of My League” has been the cause of a very minor controversy. The thinking is that the movie’s lead, played by Jay Baruchel, is too good looking for the role.

The role calls for a so-called “5,” and the premise of the movie is that the guy is dating a 10 — someone who clearly is out of his league.

Now, this isn’t to say that it’s like putting Brad Pitt in the role, but suffice to say, Baruchel is better looking than average. However, it is a long-standing tradition in Hollywood to play fast and loose with who is considered average and who is actually ugly.

Does anyone really find “Ugly Betty” to be ugly? In “She’s All That,” if you made a bet that someone couldn’t be turned into a prom queen, why on Earth would you pick Rachael Leigh Cook?

In Hollywood, Baruchel is what is considered an average-looking guy. And from these clips, “She’s Out of My League” appears to be an average-looking comedy.
