Has General Zod Ditched CGI for an Actual Suit?

— by ANDY BEHBAKHT —

Almost a month ago, Michael Shannon was spotted wearing a motion-capture-suit on the set of “Man of Steel,” which was definitely something that was discussed through the web.

But now, it seems like the intimidating general might wear an actual uniform — which should ring a bell for most people that have been following the latest sneak photos and videos of “Man of Steel.”

Take a look before I state my thoughts:

It’s basically the suit that Cavill is wearing, only without the shield and cape and the bright colors have been replaced with black instead. To be honest, I wasn’t that thrilled when I saw that Shannon was wearing a mo-cap suit. In my opinion, that’s much more suited for movies like “Green Lantern,” where an actual suit wouldn’t look nearly as fantastic as a CGI suit would (which was one of the reasons why I loved “Green Lantern” so much — because of the suit). But for a movie like “Man of Steel” — is there any character you can think of that would actually require wearing a CGI suit?

The answer is no, of course. So I’m grateful they had Shannon wearing a real suit and I must say, I’m digging that it’s basically Superman’s suit without the colorful parts. It also looks like a much more updated and improved version than the one from “Superman II” that Terence Stamp was wearing – maybe the photos when we saw Shannon in his Mo-cap suit was just when he had just arrived on Earth (supposedly that this version of Zod, was trapped in the Phantom Zone before arriving on Earth). At least Shannon has confirmed that he’ll be wearing some sort of CGI outfit. It will be interesting to see once the movie is released, what that CGI suit will become once it has been done.

“Man of Steel” will land in theaters on June 14, 2013. Let me know what you think of Zod’s new look by hitting with your comments to the right.
