Man of Steel: Empire Images

I still remember the first official photo that was released for “Man of Steel.” It showed so much, yet so little. Speculation ran wild about Superman’s suit, about his hair, even about his muscles.

Now, months later, we have seen the suit in its entirety in the trailer, other behind the scenes photos, and even leaked photos of toys and statuettes. But, in my opinion, none of those compare to this fantastic new cover photo for March’s edition of Empire magazine.

Here, we have an up close and personal look at our new Man of Steel, played by Henry Cavill. His muscles are popping right in front of our eyes; his suit is in glorious detail. Sure, some are still going on about the suit being too dark, and the missing trousers, but for now, this is the suit we have and, personally, I have really grown accustomed to it.

The suit has the feel of alien armor, but with a kind of royalty and prestige. This is the gift from an alien father, and until it gets destroyed or damaged, I can see him wearing it with pride, standing tall with the honor. He is the last son of Krypton. Perhaps his mom will sew him a new one for future installments.

But wait, there’s more …

We also have a clear first look at Zod, played by Michael Shannon. He has a medieval-yet-futuristic-warrior-like look that hints us at what to expect for the movie. He is going be the villain of the movie, and it is nice to see him also in high definition, so that we can start learning what Earth’s threat in “Man of Steel” is really going to look like. And based on this photo, he seems like a force to reckon with.

And finally, we get another great look at Russell Crowe’s Jor-El, nothing different to what we have seen before, but fantastic nevertheless.

This movie is really shaping up nicely, and I have noticed more and more folks coming around to it.

What do you think?

“Man of Steel” will fly into theaters on June 14. It stars Henry Cavill, Russell Crowe, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Christopher Meloni, Michael Shannon, Lawrence Fishburne and many more.
