Leave your Gucci and Prada at the door because New York’s fab four are ditching the city for the desert. In the sequel to the smash-hit “Sex and the City” movie, the girls are heading off on a Middle Eastern vacation.
Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Charlotte (Kristin Davis), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Samantha (Kim Catrall) are getting older, getting married and having kids, but their bond is just as strong as in their swinging single days. Many of the plot details are still being kept under wraps, but it is known that the film will follow the four women as they deal with getting older and send them on a trip to Abu Dhabi, where Samantha is traveling on business.
While they’re away, newly single Samantha gets a new love interest and Carrie runs into her former flame Aidan (John Corbett). Chris Noth, David Eigenberg and Evan Handler are all back as husbands Mr. Big, Steve and Harry, and Willie Garson and Mario Cantone will also return as the gang’s gay best friends Stanford and Anthony.
If you’re a fan of the series and the first movie, odds are you’ll like the sequel too. I enjoyed the show and the first film, but as much fun as I’m sure it was to send the girls to an exotic locale, I hope taking the city out of “Sex and the City” doesn’t make the franchise lose its charm. New York is almost a character itself, and keeping the gang away from it for too long would feel off. But I’m looking forward to discovering where Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda and Samantha will end up next.
“Sex and the City 2” arrives in theaters May 27. Check out nine clips from the movie below.
