‘Resident Evil 4: Afterlife’ News and Previews

— by ROBERT DeFEIS —

For all the hardcore (and not so hardcore) “Resident Evil” fans, this article has everything you need to know, including quotes straight from Milla Jovovich’s twitter and a couple of pictures showing us the new look for the main characters and the new character Chris Redfield.

“Afterlife” includes two more characters straight from the videogame: Wentworth Miller (of TV’s “Prinson Break”) as Chris Redfield and Shawn Roberts as Albert Wesker. Now, as any of you who have played the game know, these are main characters and Wesker is almost unbeatable as the t-virus is already a part of him.

Here is Jovovich explaining a scene from a fight with Wesker: “So, Wentworth, Ali and I are doing this scene right now where Chris R. and Clair R (Ali Larter) run into the V22 hangar, guns blazing, trying to shoot Wesker, but to run in groups firing weapons is VERY dangerous.”

So as you can see, I think this film will be focused much more on the action aspect — definitely be step in the right direction.

For those of you who don’t know, this movie is being entirely shot in 3-D. Jovovich explains how “Afterlife” will revolutionize the 3-D genre: “One of the scenes we’re shooting today is the last scene in the movie and the guys had to invent something that could take a 3-D camera that high and far. The technology we’re using is all so new and cutting edge that you can’t just buy rigs premade to get the shots we want! It’s so exciting though, to think that we’re inventing things on this movie that will probably be standard in 5 years time!”

For me, that sounds incredible. I’m not much of a 3-D fan, but just thinking about the possibilities in a film like this can be amazing.

“Resident Evil: Afterlife” will pick up where the third film left off. Since then, Alice has been wandering the world searching for any remaining survivors (sounds familiar). As she enters the ruined Los Angeles, she stumbles upon a prison that is swarming with the living dead. She then teams up with group of survivors who had been hiding in Los Angeles since the T-Virus outbreak and helps them break out other survivors held within the jail which include Claire’s brother Chris Redfield.

Here is another quote by Jovovich as she tells about what they will be fighting in the film: “So cool! Paul just told us the dailys from the last few days look INCREDIBLE!!! (dailys is the latest footage that’s been shot already). They were of the big action sequence with Alice and Claire fighting THE EXECUTIONER who in reality is an 8 ft. tall heavy weight boxer! He has a HUGE axe and we’re in a prison shower, so every time he swings the axe, showers explode! So thru the whole scene it’s literally raining! So beautiful!”

That gives me chills just thinking about how that scene will play out. Looks like rescuing Chris Redfield won’t be as easy as she has hoped.

Alice uses quite a few guns in the film. Here’s a quick list: two Smith & Wesson 460 revolvers, two sawed-off double-barrel shotguns, one MPSK submachine gun, two MP9 submachine guns and one M4 assault rifle. That is quite an array of guns and a lot more compared to the other films.

So I would say this looks like it could be the best “Resident Evil” film yet. Paul Anderson is the director and it looks as though he is going all-out on this film. They have released the logo for the movie which is pretty cool.

Afterlife will bring on the zombies on Aug. 27, 2010. Until then, maybe watch Jovovich’s other film, “The Fourth Kind.”

    Resident Evil = Mediocre
    Apocalypse = Unwatchable
    Extinction = Campy trash

    The odds of quality are mighty high for “Afterlife”
