There hasn’t been a lot of buzz about Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel” in 2012 other than the rumor that Bradley Cooper was going to join the Superman reboot as the last son of Krypton’s arch-nemesis Lex Luthor — which I, quite frankly, found as the most ridiculous rumor so far.
Today, however, we have actual confirmed casting news that adds another familiar Superman character. Variety released today that Emmy-winner Richard Schiff (“The West Wing”) has joined the cast as Dr. Hamilton, and I think it’s quite obvious that “Dr. Hamilton” is none other than Dr. Emil Hamilton.
The character of Dr. Emil Hamilton in the comics has been portrayed both as an ally and a villain to the Man of Tomorrow. He is also known as another alias, Ruin, which is the name as his criminal ego.
Dr. Hamilton was recently seen in “Smallville,” where Alessandro Juliani entered in season eight and was a recurring character through season 10. The version in that show was portrayed as an ally to Clark Kent, and was supposedly in his early years as an doctor/scientist. The ally version might be what we’ll see in “Man of Steel,” since it’s a origin story for the hero.
Production on “Man of Steel” is slated to end in February and hopefully we soon will get more images from the film or — even better — a first teaser trailer.
“Man of Steel” — which also stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Russell Crowe, Ayelet Zorer, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Harry Lennix, Christopher Meloni and Antje Traue — flies into theaters June 14, 2013.
What do you think of Schiff as Dr. Hamilton? You know what to do, hit it with your comments to the right.

Schiff does have a striking resemblance to Dr. Hamilton. I will prefer to see Hamilton as an allied to Superman just like Lucius Fox was to Batman in “The Dark Knight” films.
