Shannen Doherty is suddenly full of surprises. You wouldn’t figure that the actress who carved a well-earned reputation for being tempestuous would pop up as the star of a holiday movie. It just doesn’t seem to fit her life script. But with the actress’s new-found growth and maturity, Doherty is Halloween headlining the Hallmark Channel original movie “Growing the Big One.”
IThe movie is a family-friendly film that pairs Doherty with Kavan Smith (“Stargate: Atlantis”) in telling the story of a mismatched duo who join forces to grow the world’s biggest pumpkin and wind up cultivating something you can’t grow in a patch.
“It’s definitely a little different for me,” Doherty admits. “It’s much lighter than my usual brooding intensity. I was so concerned that I’d stink in it. But I didn’t stink! And that’s kind of amazing. But the Hallmark Channel is expanding its focus – and so am I.”
“Growing the Big One” — premiering Oct. 23 (9 p.m. ET/PT, 8 p.m. CT). — kicks off Hallmark Channel’s Countdown to the Holidays.
