Jay and Silent Bob these two are not. In his latest movie, Kevin Smith strays from his familiar View Askewniverse and ventures into the NYPD.
“Cop Out” follows New York police officers Jimmy (Bruce Willis) and Paul (Tracey Morgan) as they hunt for a stolen baseball card. Jimmy planned to sell the rare card to pay for his daughter’s wedding, but when it is stolen, he calls on Paul to help him track down the thief. And of course, they engage in multiple misadventures along the way.
This marks Smith’s first time directing a movie from a script he did not write. I’ve loved his past films, especially “Dogma” and “Clerks,” but I wasn’t too impressed with the first trailer for “Cop Out.” The red band trailer did make me laugh quite a bit more, so I’ll probably give this one a shot.
Willis and Morgan have both proven hilarious before, and I imagine they’ll play well off each other here. Smith also found a strong supporting cast in Sean William Scott, Adam Brody, Jason Lee and Rashida Jones.
“Cop Out” hits theaters Feb. 26.
