Today marks exactly one month away from the official release of Marvel’s “The Avengers” and we couldn’t be more excited, or could we?
The studio has just released the very first official clip from the film and we get to see some butt-kicking action, so take a look.
So, what did you think? In the clip, we get to see Black Widow, a.k.a. Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) on a covert mission doing what she does best — playing whatever role she needs to in order to accomplish her mission — when she is “captured,” tied to a chair and “interrogated” by what appears to be a Russian General and his goons. She is on the phone with Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) back at S.H.I.E.L.D., who tells her that “Barton has been compromised.” That information (which obviously relates to her Avengers teammate Clint “Hawkeye” Barton), gets her to end her pretense of being captive and she quickly disarms her captors.
It is no surprise that they chose this particular clip as the first one released, firstly because Johansson is hot and fan boys love her. Also, doesn’t it make sense to build up more tension and raise the stakes with every new clip released? So I’m assuming the clips will get bigger and have the more powerful members of the team come later.
Personally, I loved the clip because it was intimate while also showcasing director Joss Whedon’s talent for creating humor and witty dialogue in everything he does. We also get to see Agent Phil Coulson on the phone and his lack of reaction to hearing the painful cries and grunts of men on the other end; that shows this as being ordinary for him. My favorite part of this short clip has to be the flip Black Widow does which breaks the chair on her captor’s back, freeing her from her bonds.
Although this might seem like not a lot to get excited over, I am because it is just the beginning for the final month and the barrage we are going to be seeing for the marketing on Marvel Studio’s largest endeavor to date.
“The Avengers” also stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson and Gwyneth Paltrow and hits theaters May 4.
