Marvel seems to be having a very “leaky” time at the moment. First, there were some (apparently) spot-on artist impressions released of Chris Evans in costume as Captain America, and then last week, Collider released a set of photos that a source of theirs had sent them of future Norse god Chris Hemsworth as Thor. Although these images look pretty legit, even if they are, remember that they are “concept” – the look can, and most likely will, change in some way before we visit Asgard next year.
I’m of two minds at the moment over the images, it must be said. I see where some people are a little wary of the “pro wrestler” look that parts of the costume give off. Yet, at the same time, I see how the costume as a whole will not look too out of place next to Tony Stark’s Iron Man armour. They certainly seem to be invoking the Ultimates look with Thor in this film. And that cape just looks awesome. When you’re finished with it, would you mind sending it over to Warner Bros. c/o Chris Nolan, please?
From the looks of it (and I’m hopeful), director Kenneth Branagh has balanced the look and style perfectly. At once he is faithful to Thor’s origins and background (the semi-authentic sub-Shakespearean language for example), yet is modernizing the character at the same time so as not to freeze out the younger audience. As always, time will tell.
Thor also stars Natalie Portman as love-interest Jane Foster, Anthony Hopkins as Thor’s father, Odin, and Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Thor’s half brother and the film’s villain. The film also stars Ray Stevenson, Tadanobu Asano, and Joshua Dallas as the Warriors Three; Idris Elba as Heimdall, Stellan Skarsgard as Selvig, and Jaimie Alexander as Sif.
