I can appreciate anyone who practices their hip hop dance moves in an empty apartment room. No one wants to be caught off guard when it comes time for a dance off and practicing in front of other people can lead to embarrassment. Though it looks like in the British film “Fish Tank” the dancing is a little more symbolic than a girl wanting to have good dance moves.
In “Fish Tank,” 15-year-old Mia’s only passion is urban dancing. She lives with her single mom and younger sister and has problems with the law and school. When her mother starts dating a man named Connor, Mia’s life becomes more confusing and disruptive. Mia and Connor soon sleep together and things go from bad to worse. Mia begins taking drastic measures to get revenge on Connor, who has been living a double life.
Directed by Andrea Arnold, “Fish Tank” stars Katie Jarvis and Michael Fassbender. The winner of the Jury Prize at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival, “Fish Tank” is currently playing in New York.
Below are three clips from “Fish Tank.” The first is the aforementioned clip of Mia dancing in an empty apartment room. The hip hop continues in the second clip, which also features Connor. The final clip shows the complexities Mia has with Connor.
