Trailer Talk: ‘Men in Black III’

— by ADAM POYNTER —

The Men in Black are back, with a third installment to the highly-successful franchise that grossed over $1 Billion between the first two films. But with nearly 10 years having passed since the last installment, can director Barry Sonnenfeld (“Men in Black,” “Get Shorty) breathe life back into a film franchise that has been dormant for so many years?

We finally have our first teaser trailer for “Men in Black III” — a film that has been plagued with problems from inception through filming — but we are glad that it is finally here.

Watch the very first teaser trailer for “Men in Black III” below.

“Men in Black III” picks up right where we left our old friends, Agent J (Will Smith) and Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones), as they are off tracking down aliens and trying to keep interstellar peace. When a weird phenomenon alters the time line and K has been killed off in the past, Agent J must travel back in time to the ’60s and investigate.

When he arrives, he learns that there was a lot more that he didn’t know about his friend, the agency and the secrets of the universe. We get to see more of the agency and the introduction of new characters such as Agent Oh (Emma Thompson), as well as the much younger, but no less surly, Agent K (played by Josh Brolin). With the fate of the Men in Black Organization and even mankind’s very existence hanging in the balance, everything is on the line as Agent J searches to uncover the truth.

Not much beyond this basic plot has been released about the film yet, but one thing’s for sure — the chemistry, humor and cool weapons are still there and nostalgia takes over and makes it seem like they never left. I will say that Josh Brolin is a great addition and just his one line in this trailer makes me smile as his impression of Agent K is spot on.

What did you think of the trailer? Did it get you excited for the film or do you want to wait and see more before making a judgment? Let us know in the comments section.

“Men in Black II” crash lands into theaters May 25, 2012, in 3D.
