Trailer: Superman / Batman: Apocalypse

— by JOSUE SANCHEZ —

If you have loved the latest installments of the DC animated movies — such as “Superman: Doomsday,” “Superman/Batman: Public Enemies” and “Wonder Woman” — then prepare yourself to leap, rant and rejoice. DC is launching its ninth PG-13 animated adventure with “Superman/Batman: Apocalypse.”

By the looks of the trailer (embedded below), we are getting Darkseid and Doomsday … actually an army of Doomsday’s. Yes, you read right. This trailer is fast paced and exciting. They have truly pulled out all the stops for this one. I certainly look forward to it, since I pretty much have enjoyed of the rest of the lot, and own them all. But it really seems like they are attempting to outdo themselves with this one. Proof of this in its tagline: “The End is Near.” There are no words to describe the excitement this fanboy is experiencing right now.

There are just so many cool things about this movie that one could easily hyperventilate and maybe overwhelm nearby co-workers and friends, just a little bit. I wonder if this is why my friends don’t answer the phone anymore?

Summer Glau as Supergirl? What can I say, this is exquisite casting. She is still resonating in my head as the amazing terminator Cameron, on the TV show “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.” I loved her here and I am looking forward to her new show being released this fall: “The Cape.”

Tim Daly and Kevin Conroy will reprise their roles as Superman and Batman, respectively, once again. But, we are also going to have visits from Granny Goodness (Ed Asner) and Wonder Woman (Susan Eisenberg from the “Justice League” cartoons). Are you excited yet?

I love the art (which is based on the drawings of the late, great Michael Turner). With every new animated feature movie, the art looks more real. I like Superman’s face. It does not looks so cartoonish. Instead, the people look more life-like than any previous animated movie to date from DC, in my opinion.

I also love the choice of Darkseid for the villain voiced by Andre Braugher (“Salt,” “Poseidon” and “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer”). He is a very talented actor in my opinion. Having Darkseid as a villain will also get folks excited for the upcoming final season of “Smallville,” which will have our Superman-in-training Clark Kent (Tom Welling), facing off against the gigantic god-like and ruthless being, Darkseid, in its final season.

Check out the trailer below and see if you can spot more heroes than then the ones I have already mentioned. Then share in the comment section to the right.

“Superman/Batman: Apocalypse” will hit the small screens Sept. 28.
