Trailer Talk: ‘The Fourth Kind’

— by MARIUSZ ZUBROWSKI —

The film “Paranormal Activity” relied on internet viral-advertising for its success. It ultimately worked and now Olatunde Osunsanmi is planning to do the same thing for his film “The Fourth Kind.”

This is Osunsanmi’s first independent film, though he worked with Joe Carnahan on the movie “Smoking Aces.”

“The Fourth Kind” is a “re-enactment” of events that happened in Nome dealing with alien abductions.

Milla Jovovich stars as Dr. Abigail Tyler, a psychologist whose patients are traumatized after being haunted by “the white owl.” Enticed by her patient’s behaviors Dr. Abigail Tyler tries to connect the dots between the increasing number of missing people in Nome and the alien sightings of her patients.

Though the events are proposed to be real, the actual case studies are not specified thus making it difficult to prove or debunk the actuality of these claims. Osunsanmi is using this to his advantage as viral marketing sites such as the Alaska News Archive and Alaska Psychiatry Journal have been made.

“The Fourth Kind” is rated PG-13 and besides Jovovich, actors Elias Koteas, Will Patton and Hakeen Kae Kazim are on board. The film is slated for release on Nov. 6, 2009.
