It's Just Movies

It’s been six years since “Underworld: Evolution,” which centered on Selene (Kate Beckinsale) and Michael Corvin (Scott Speedman). “Underworld: Rise of the Lycans” gave us a nice look into the past and how things came to be so bad between the lycans and vampires, but it is truly the continuation of the story between Selene and Michael Corvin that I have been wanting to see. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that Speedman has returned to the fourth film’s storyline.

The trailer begins with Selene emerging from a cryogenic state (similar to Alice in the “Resident Evil” franchise, just add the ice, of course) and pretty much kills her way through the facility where she has been held captive for the past 12 years. “It’s a new war” says Selene in the trailer, but is it really?

We have vampires and lycans fighting each other, but now we add the humans fighting for their own survival rather than as puppets like they have been in the previous films. This is just a side of the war that the other “Underworld” films never really touched base on. In my opinion, it’s always existed but it was never really a concern.

The mood is still rather dark, action packed, lots of automatic gunfire, and Selene once again looking for her mate, Michael Corvin. However, there is a twist to the story. Not only do the writers bring us a new monster that Selene will have to ultimately battle, but rumor has it that Michael and Selene have a hybrid daughter, Eve (India Eisley of “The Secret Life of the American Teenager”).
