Watch the First Episode of ‘The Ricky Gervais Show’

— by SEAN GERSKI —

As Ricky Gervais continues his quest to take on the world of movies (in films such as “The Invention of Lying” and “Ghost Town”), he hasn’t stopped working in two other fields where he has made a name for himself: TV and podcasts.

In “The Ricky Gervais Show,” he combines those last two areas. The podcasts — which feature Gervais, Stephen Merchant and Karl Pilkington — have been animated in a “Flintstones” sort of way to create this new show, which has recently begun airing on HBO.

Admittedly, the animation adds little to the podcasts. However, if it gets more people to listen to them, it can’t be a bad thing. Pilkington is absurdly — and hilariously — deranged and Gervais and Merchant act as clever — if not completely bewildered — observers.

The first episode of the show has been embedded below, courtesy of HBO. But I highly recommend you give a listen to the original audio podcasts when you get a chance (they are available at iTunes).

    Odd … But funny.

As much as I like Gervais, I have just never been able to get into the podcasts.

Sorry to say, the video’s gone away. But it was fun while it lasted.
