Trailer Talk: ‘Edge of Darkness’

— by ALEXA MILAN —

January usually isn’t the best time of year for new releases, but this Mel Gibson suspense thriller looks promising.

Based on the 1985 British mini-series, “Edge of Darkness” stars Gibson as homicide detective Thomas Craven, whose world shatters when his activist daughter (Bojana Novakovic) is murdered.

As he investigates her death, he discovers she had a secret life connected to a government conspiracy and corporate cover-up.

The film was directed by Martin Campbell (of “Casino Royale”), who also directed the 1985 original.

Though Gibson has been out of the spotlight since directing “Apocalypto” in 2006, this new trailer looks action-packed and suspenseful.

Also starring Ray Winstone and Danny Huston, “Edge of Darkness” hits theaters Jan. 29, 2010.

I’ll tell you what. I am a Mel Gibson FAN. I know he gets a lot of flak for the films he directs – undo flak, I think – and I can’t wait to see this movie. Mel Gibson brooding, kicking ass, taking names. For the love of God, he even says “Fasten your seatbelt!” in the trailer! Does it get better?

The hair on my chest just grew a little thicker after watching that! Mel Gibson is the man! I don’t care what anyone says. He is far and away my favorite actor. I’ll be there on opening day. I think I’m going to have to write a column on Mel I think.
