Anthony Hopkins Cast as Odin in ‘Thor’

— by SEAN GERSKI —

In a surprising move, Marvel and Kenneth Branaugh have selected award-winning actor Anthony Hopkins to portray Odin in the upcoming “Thor” movie.

Already on board Branaugh’s adaptation of the Marvel Comics character are: Chris Hemsworth as Thor; Tom Hiddleston as Loki; Natalie Portman as Jane Foster; Jaimie Alexander as Sif; and Colm Feore as a yet-to-be-disclosed villain.

The movie begins production in January.

In the movie, “Thor” is a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. He is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. On Earth, Thor must learn what it takes to be a true hero.

“Thor” has hammered out a release date of May 20, 2011.

Well i didnt see this move happening. I had thought it was going to be brian blessend who was long rumored for the role months back. Though if he is in the cast he is likely some other role. Also i thought it could have been stallen sharksgard who was recently cast in the film. But boy hopkins is a very solid actor and another great pick added to this cast. Cant wait to see how this turns out.
