Dwayne Johnson Wanted for Hercules

— by JOSUE SANCHEZ —

Here’s some interesting news that will probably get Dwayne Johnson fans excited. MGM wants The Rock for the upcoming “Hercules” movie project.

The studio has already secured Brett Ratner (“Tower Heist” and the “Rush Hour” films) to direct. These two guys are talented at what they do, and locking in the popular wrestler-turned-actor is a smart move; he has the physical traits needed and has the loyal fan-base to fill seats at theaters. But, at the same time, these two choices bring various questions to mind.

Will it be an action-comedy? This is the style Ratner has demonstrated time and again to love. Johnson has also had his shares of comedies —and most have been hits— so, can this be why he’s been cast?

Or, will they go the epic route? Will this movie be an serious in tone mythology-filled movie in which we can explore the mighty hero’s adventures and battles as he so deserves?

Personally, I feel the latter is the route to go. But with Ratner and Johnson on board, I get the feeling they might want to go in a more fun, comedic direction. Hey, I could be wrong and they might just make a darker “Lord of the Rings” meets “He-Man” type of epic movie. I mean, there is some hope this can happen since the movie will be based on Steve Moore’s 2008 graphic novel “Hercules: The Thracian War,” which is definitely the epic story Hercules deserves.

In light of the success of “Immortals,” “Clash of the Titans” and “300,” it is no surprise the studio is jumping on the greatest of all the mythological legends.

The script has been written by Ryan Condol. Keep it here for updates on this intriguing project.
