Eleven Clips from ‘The Book of Eli’

— by ROBERT DeFEIS —

Those of you reading this have probably already seen the trailer and, if you have any doubts about this being a fantastic film, these clips should put any of those thoughts into hibernation and will most likely get you to the theater this Friday to see the film. I am extremely happy Denzel Washington decided to play Eli; I mean he just fits into that character so well for me and also plays the sword-wielding, book-protecting badass quite the same. After seeing him play in roles such as “Training Day” and “American Gangster,” it was really just a matter of time before he took a role like this.

What I really love about this film is its post-apocalyptic setting and the camera work done throughout, which you will see in these clips. The end of the world has been done before and we all know that and, it may sound weird, but what really stands out to me are the colors of the film. It’s so unique, and the setting in the film is also fun to see as it almost seems set in the Wild West.

For those of you worried about Mila Kunis playing Solara, I think those worries could also be put to rest. The one thing about the film I wondered about was whether she would be able to pull off such a difficult role. If you want to see her in action, you can watch the last clip titled “Grenade.”

Gary Oldman also seems to be a perfect fit as the villain, Carnagie, as he and Denzel play very well off of each other. In quite a few of the clips, you will get to see them chatting about that all important book and how it can be used as a weapon.

Everyone who wants to see what Eli will do with that great book of his can do so starting Jan. 15.
