According to her Twitter feed, Elizabeth Hurley has landed a key role in NBC’s Wonder Woman TV show.
This morning, the actress wrote:
Thrilled to be doing the NBC pilot Wonder Woman. I’ll be playing the evil villain. Can’t wait.
I’m fine with this. For a TV show about Wonder Woman, Hurley seems like a capable fit in a villainous role.
On the whole, though, I have to admit that I’m having trouble mustering much in the way of positive feelings for this project.
The first problem is the script. It feels like an Ally McBeal-ized version of the Amazonian Princess. Seeing that David E. Kelley is responsible for both, it isn’t a surprise. It is a concern, though.
My second problem with it is the casting of Adrianne Palicki. Nothing I’ve seen from her really sells me on Palicki in the role. On the plus side, Alan Sepinwall, a writer for whom I have a lot of respect, says it’s perfect casting. And I definitely am willing to give her a chance. But if feels off to me so far.
As an example of what I mean, check out the new clip below from the upcoming movie “Elektra Luxx.” Palicki is the one on the bed (the other actress is Emmanuelle Chriqui).
Watching her, I can easily see Palicki playing the lead in a David E. Kelley TV show. I just wish it wasn’t Wonder Woman.
