Enter ‘The Tournament’

— by SEAN GERSKI —

Based on the plot and the actors involved, I am intrigued by the movie “The Tournament.”

The movie’s plot is as follows: Every seven years in an unsuspecting town, ‘The Tournament’ — A battle royale between 30 of the world’s deadliest assassins — takes place. The last man standing receives a $10,000,000 cash prize, the title of ‘World’s No. 1’ and the legendary $1,000,000 a bullet price tag.

“The Tournament” has the possibility of being the kind of movie where you can’t predict who will win, which sounds great to me. It’s directed by Scott Mann and the cast includes Robert Carlysle, Ian Somerhalder, Ving Rhames, Kelly Hu and Scott Adkins. Which sounds fairly decent.

The film will open the Screamfest Horror Film Festival in the Mann’s Chinese Theatre on Oct. 16. It also has played at a few festivals, but firm release date was unavailable as I wrote this.

Here we have a tense scene from the movie. What I found particularly interesting was that every time I thought it would end (acting as a cliffhanger) it kept revealing more.

That looks like it could be pretty solid.

I like the plot. Kind of reminds me of “The Quick and the Dead.
