I saw “Smokin’ Aces” in the theater in 2006 and I have to admit, I really don’t remember too much of it. Let’s be honest, it’s not really a memorable movie. Entertaining? Sure. But not exactly memorable.
Written and directed by Joe Carnahan, “Smokin’ Aces” featured a lot of actors that are worth watching, including Ryan Reynolds, Jeremy Piven, Chris Pine, Ben Affleck, Ray Liotta, Andy Garcia, Common, Alicia Keys, Jason Bateman, Kevin Durand and Mattew Fox. It was that list of actors that got me in the theater in the first place and they are what I most remember about the movie.
And now we have the followup, “Smokin’ Aces 2: Assassins’ Ball,” which looks far more forgettable — and doesn’t bring back the cast. This time, we get Vinnie Jones, Autumn Reeser, Tom Berenger and Ernie Hudson. So, odds are, I will be skipping this one.
Below, we have four clips from the movie, which was scripted by Olatunde Osunsanmi and Olumide Odebunmi and directed by P.J. Pesce. The first two clips especially do a good job of summing up what “Smokin’ Aces 2: Assassins’ Ball” — due out on DVD and blu-ray Jan. 19 — is all about: sex and violence.
