Fans of the “Yogi Bear” cartoon are in luck. Not only is “smarter than the average bear” Yogi headed to the big screen, but he’s headed to the big screen in 3D.
In the live action/CGI hybrid from “Journey to the Center of the Earth” director Eric Brevig, a greedy politician wants to shut down Jellystone Park, which would leave Yogi (Dan Aykroyd) and his sidekick Boo Boo (Justin Timberlake) without a home. The bears team up with Ranger Smith (Tom Cavanagh) and a documentary filmmaker (Anna Faris) to save the park.
A few leaked images of Yogi and Boo Boo that are supposedly from the film have recently been circulating the Internet, though they haven’t yet been confirmed as real. If the pictures are in fact from the film, it looks like they are following the original character designs pretty closely.
In an interview with MTV, Brevig makes “Yogi Bear” sound a bit more promising than past cartoon-to-live action/CGI adaptations. But the cringe-worthy “Garfield” and “Alvin and the Chipmunks” still make me a bit wary of the “Yogi Bear” movie.
“Yogi Bear” hits theaters Dec. 17. Check out the leaked images of Yogi and Boo Boo below.
So what do you think? Are you excited about the “Yogi Bear” movie, or are you hesitant about how Yogi and Boo Boo will translate on the big screen? Sound off in the comments section.
