Poster Peek: ‘Conan the Barbarian’

— by ADAM POYNTER —

“Conan the Barbarian” — an upcoming 3D film visiting a land of enchantment, sorcery and epic sword battles — is a retelling of the story of the character created by Robert E. Howard. This movie is not connected to the 1980 films that helped to make Arnold Schwarzenegger a household name.

Starring Jason Momoa as the infamous bad-ass warrior, “Conan the Barbarian” is about a single man who ventures out into the world after the murder of his father and the destruction of his village. On his quest for answers and revenge, he will meet many women and even more challenges.

This teaser poster — which is a take on some famous Conan artwork — is just a slight peek at Momoa in the Conan garb. The warrior is standing on a mountain of skulls I take it as a sign of all the people that he will have to go through to get his revenge. .

Sure to be more savage and graphic than the previous incarnations, I’m sure this modern retelling will be more appropriate for a modern audience. With only a minute-long teaser released so far, there is no way to judge the acting or the storyline in this new movie yet. I guess we will just have to wait until an official full-length trailer is released and we can then judge for ourselves.

“Conan the Barbarian” also stars Ron Perlman, Rose McGowan, Stephen Lang and Rachel Nichols. This 3D swordfight slashes its way into theaters Aug. 19.

I can’t stand all this 3D. Jeez you can only do so much of it. It should be a great rental though.

I am a huge fan of the original CONAN franchise and although I dont want this to be good I think this author has a point, we can’t judge it until we see some actual footage.
