Russell Crowe Cast as Jor-El in ‘Man of Steel’

— by ADAM POYNTER —

Amidst rumors going around that there are problems with Warner Bros. Superman reboot, “Man of Steel,” there has been another casting announcement.

Variety is reporting that none other than Russell Crowe has been cast as Superman’s birth-father, Jor-El. Originally played by Marlon Brando, it has been said they have been seeking a big A-List actor to portray this iconic role. The film is being produced by Christopher Nolan and directed by Zack Snyder.

This seems like a good choice in casting to me as Russell Crowe has proven himself to be a great actor in any role and I’m sure his take on the character will be interesting and unique. Crowe is joining a full cast: we have Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane; Kevin Costner and Diane Lane will play Jonathan and Martha Kent,Michael Shannon is the infamous and evil General Zod.

With production scheduled to begin next month, Warner Bros. is still looking for the right woman to play Jor-El’s wife/Kal-El’s mother. Do you think Crowe was a good choice for the role? Do you have someone in mind for Superman’s mother? Leave it in a comment on the right.

“Man of Steel” has yet to set a release date but is looking towards a holiday release in 2012.

Michelle Pfeiffer would make a great Lara, mother of Kal-El. In my opinion.

Can they stop with the big name casting already? Cavill is just going to look like an amateur. When it comes to superhero movies the bigger the names, the worst the movie is. Just when you think it can’t get any worse, they cast this guy as Jor-El.
