Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you probably know by now that Sony and director Marc Webb have selected Andrew Garfield as the new Spider-Man. But before casting Garfield, the shortlist of potential Spider-Man stars included the likes of Jamie Bell, Anton Yelchin, Frank Dillane and Josh Hutcherson.
More than the others, Hutcherson was long rumored to be the top pick, with speculation that he had been cast swirling just the day before Garfield was announced as the new Peter Parker. Now, fans can get a sneak peek at the Spidey that could have been, courtesy of Latino Review. The site got its hands on Hutcherson’s audition tape, and it’s easy to see why he was one of the top contenders.
In the audition tape, Hutcherson certainly looks the part of a high school nerd and seems like he could have handled the stunts. I think Hutcherson would have been a great choice, though I have heard nothing but positive things about Garfield’s acting, especially since the trailer for “The Social Network” debuted.
Personally, I think it would be interesting to see the screen tests for all of the actors on the shortlist. I’m curious about how their takes on Peter Parker compare. But what do you think? Are you happy with Garfield, or does Hutcherson’s audition tape make you wish he were donning the Spider-man costume instead? Sound off in the comments section.
