What would happen if you could access 100 percent of your brain? You would become rich, powerful and the target of a bunch of ruthless killers, if the upcoming action thriller “Limitless” is any indication.
Based on the novel “The Dark Fields” by Alan Glynn, “Limitless” tells the story of a struggling writer named Eddie (Bradley Cooper) who has little money, a cramped apartment and an unkempt appearance. But his life is turned upside down when a friend offers him a drug called NZT-48 that allows users to access 100 percent of their brains rather than the long-rumored 10 to 20 percent most people use.
By taking one pill a day, Eddie can solve advanced math problems, speak languages he never learned and have a heightened sense of his surroundings, among other things. He has all the tools he needs to rapidly transform into a rich and powerful man. But that kind of knowledge and success is bound to attract the attention of others who want the same thing, and the once unassuming writer is soon pursued by a group of dangerous men who want to know his secret.
I’m not quite sure what to think of this movie based on the clips and trailer, but it looks like it could amount to a pretty fun and interesting action thriller. I think the premise sounds promising, and I find Cooper to be an engaging actor. I’m interested to see if he can carry a film as a leading man, even if he does have a strong supporting player in one Robert De Niro.
“Limitless” opens March 18. Check out six clips from the film below.
